Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32), voted for the Suspending Energy Imports From Russian Act. This bipartisan bill includes major provisions that will further isolate Russia from the global economy and leave it weaker. Allred recently returned from a bipartisan Congressional Delegation trip to Ukraine.

"Russia should be an international pariah, and combined with the actions of President Biden, we will ensure that the United States no longer subsidizes Putin's unprovoked and unjustified war against Ukraine," said Allred. "The President has led the world in working to stabilize energy markets by releasing oil from our strategic reserves, and we must keep doing all we can to lower everyday costs for North Texans and minimize the global cost of Putin's war."

The Suspending Energy Imports From Russia Act:

Bans the import of Russian oil and energy products into the United States. This will cut off a major source of revenue for Putin.

Takes steps to review Russia's access to the World Trade Organization and explore how we can further diminish Russia in the global economy.

Reauthorizes and strengthens the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act so that the United States can impose further sanctions on Russia. In 2012, Congress took bipartisan action to impose sanctions on human rights abusers in Russia, and this standard was expanded in 2016 to apply globally. This bill extends Global Magnitsky so that the United States can continue to punish Russia for its heinous attacks on Ukrainian civilians and its violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
